Ticket Questions

No, they are separate tickets. Boarding Passes will get you a tour on the static ships open for Ship Tours and Sail Away tickets will get you on the 90-120 min sailings. Understand that ships that are underway on Sail Away voyages will not be available for tours, so if you definitely want to see one of the Sail Away vessels we recommend getting your voyage tickets asap.

We encourage people to purchase tickets in advance so they can go directly to the ticket gate and not have to wait in line to purchase tickets first. There is NO guarantee that any certain type of ticket will be available at the gate for purchase. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Day Sail tickets are popular and limited and have a tendency to sell-out well in advance of the actual event. Please plan accordingly.

Yes, you may purchase a ship tour ticket for one day and a sailing ticket for another day.  Sail Away tickets and daily Boarding Passes are separate tickets. You may purchase as many of each as you like, depending upon availability.

ALL PASSENGERS regardless of age require a ticket on Sail Aways and the Parade of Sail.  Please note: per Captain's orders, children under 5 years old are not suitable for riding on the Sail Aways as there are no baby/toddler life jackets available on the ships.

Kids ages four (4) and under do not require a ticket to tour the ships at the docks with a Boarding Pass.

Boarding Passes will get you a tour on the static ships open for Ship Tours, and Sail Away tickets will get you on the 90-120 min sailings.

Please attend to children at all times.

The festival grounds are free to enter and you are welcome to enjoy our musical entertainment, wooden boat show, Pirate Camp, maritime/food vendors, and of course seeing our majestic fleet of ships. All guests are subject to security screening.

If you would like to get up-close for a tour, please purchase a $15 Boarding Pass.

If you would like to sail on a ship, we have Sail Away tickets for $60 on participating ships.

We highly recommend buying tickets in advance, as passes are limited, and entrance may be restricted to ticketed guests at times of high volume.

The only ticket limits are for the specific Sail Away trips, as there is limited space aboard each participating ship.

Sail Aways are approximately 90 minutes in length. The sail route will take you to the bridge and back depending on wind and weather. Tickets to sail on a participating ship will be available soon.

The majority of the festival grounds are accessible. It is an industrial area, and many tripping hazards exist, with a mix of gravel areas, concrete, and grass.

Access to the ships, however, requires people to traverse the gangways under their own power...so unfortunately no walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters.  Some of the boarding ramps are fairly steep depending on the specific ship and the current tide situation. Unfortunately, the design of these ancient ships limits accessibility as well.

Ship's crew may make dockside interpretations available for those who have a boarding pass and cannot physically get on the ships, as well as other accomodations as best as possible with constraints.

The festival grounds are free to enter and you are welcome to enjoy our musical entertainment, wooden boat show, Pirate Camp, maritime/food vendors, and of course seeing our majestic fleet of ships. All guests are subject to security screening.

Yes! Entry to the festival is free, but everyone is subject to screening. This includes a bag search before admittance to the grounds. Tall Ships Charleston reserves the right to alter carry-in item policies at any time.

Umbrellas will be permitted on the festival grounds if inclement weather is expected.

However, due to limited space and safety concerns they will not be allowed on the ships. We recommend ponchos or raincoats for boardings and Sail Aways.
